Old House With Knob and Tube Wiring
If you have an old house from the early nineteen hundreds chances are the electrical system has been update. However, if there still knob and tube wiring in the home we recommend for safety that the old knob and tube wiring be removed and the electrical system up dated to handle modern day electrical demands. Two more tips about knob and tube wiring (1) Home owner insurance cost three times the normal fee if the insurance company has to insure a home with knob and tube wiring. (2) Make sure you have no functional knob and tube wiring if your insurance company is insuring the house that is reported to have modern day up dated wiring. If a fire happens and one line is found to still have knob and tube wiring that one line could void the policy. In plain English, play it safe and remove all knob and tube wiring to meet the requirement of the insurance company. One more tip, check the attic real well for any old knob and tube wiring that may have been missed.

HOME OWNER ROOF MAINTENANCE INSPECTION
No, I'm not going to suggest you go up on the roof, in fact the roof is the last place you ever want to climb upon. There are a much easier way to examine the roof. Every spring after the winter storms I suggest the following for the home owner to inspect the roof for damage. First, buy a good pair of binoculars and examine the roof with the binoculars for damaged shingles. Damaged shingles are shingles that are missing, lifted or twisted, Any one of these condition can cause a leak.
Second, if you see any damage shingles, go up to the attic and very carefully examine the attic area and see if there are any water stains in the area of the shingle damage. If water stains are noted, call a roofer to make the repair, to make a roof shingle repair is a dangerous task and a professional roofer will have special equipment that will enable him to make the repair safely.
