Two Exterior Safety Hazards
Large Decorative Rocks - Very large decorative rocks look great but are a real safety hazard to children. Any one that has children knows children will go exactly where you don't want them to go and that would be climbing up on a large rock. A rock that was placed on the property as a conversation piece or a large rock left there by the builder when the house was built can be dangerous.
I was once inspecting a house that had a large rock in the front yard and I was telling the buyer that it's a safety hazard to his small children. The seller of the house heard me and said " Yes I know the rock is dangerous to small children, my son climbed the rock, fell and broke his arm the first week we moved into the house. '' The seller went on to say that he paid the builder $500.00 to move the rock from the back woods area and place it in the front yard. To sum up, be cautious if there are large rocks on the property. Even if you don't have children when you have a party or people over as guests that have children any large rock could be a real attraction to the children. Another caution is low retaining walls, if it's there kids will climb on it. Even if the wall is only a foot or so high, be careful when kids are around.
